Can't I just delete the app to escape?
Deleting the app or revoking Screen Time permission does lift the shield — Apple guarantees you that control over your own device, and every app in this category shares it. FocusLatch is a commitment device: it makes the escape slow, deliberate, and mildly embarrassing instead of one thumb-flick away.
Why a physical key — not a timer or a password?
Because you can negotiate with a timer and type a password from your bed. A key is different: it's wherever you left it, and getting it means standing up, walking over, and deciding on the way. That walk is the moment your better judgment gets a vote — and it's exactly what no app-only blocker can give you.
What if I lose my key?
If your Focus Key is permanently lost while you are latched in, deleting FocusLatch removes the system shield. Reinstall the app afterwards and register a new official Key. This recovery path is intentionally outside the main flow so scanning your Key remains the normal way back in.
Is this a Focus mode or Do Not Disturb?
No. Focus modes silence notifications; the apps still open. FocusLatch applies Apple's Screen Time shield, so blocked apps physically refuse to open until you scan your key. A FocusLatch account activates your Key and powers social/stats features; marketing emails require a separate opt-in.
